🇰🇾 Accountability matters because every public dollar belongs to the people.

One of Parliament's most important responsibilities is ensuring that public funds are spent wisely and that taxpayers receive value for money.

As a member of the Opposition and a participant in the oversight process, I understand the importance of asking the tough questions and promoting transparency in government.

This week, I am representing the Cayman Islands in Trinidad and Tobago, alongside Deputy Opposition Leader Kenneth Bryan, at the Caribbean Regional Public Accounts Committees Conference.

The conference theme, "Advancing Accountability," brings together parliamentarians, auditors, and oversight experts from across the Caribbean and Commonwealth to share best practices and strengthen good governance.

I look forward to bringing these lessons home as we continue working for greater accountability, stronger oversight, and better outcomes for the people of the Cayman Islands.

When we invest in our young people's voices, we invest in Cayman's future.

This week I was honoured to attend the English-Speaking Union (ESU) Cayman's
first-ever National Public Speaking Competition — and the standard our students
set was nothing short of remarkable. These are young Caymanians thinking on
their feet, marshalling an argument, and speaking with a confidence that would
hold its own on any stage in the world.

Congratulations to Ms. Jhenelle Colquhoun, who took the top honour and will now
represent the Cayman Islands internationally in London. That is an extraordinary
achievement, and she carries all of our pride with her.

Skills like these — clear thinking, courage, and the ability to communicate —
are exactly what we should be nurturing in every school across these Islands.
My sincere thanks to ESU Cayman, its directors, the volunteers, and the
educators and families who made this evening possible.

To every young person who stood up and spoke: you have already won something
that lasts a lifetime.

When our young people are given the chance to shine, the whole community feels it.
This week it was a privilege to join the Jubilate programme as it marked ten years of nurturing Caymanian children through music, discipline, and the quiet confidence that comes from standing up and performing in front of an audience. Founded in 2016, Jubilate has spent a decade pouring into public-school students — building an orchestra, a choir, and a generation of young people who believe they can achieve great things.
Watching these students perform — strings, voices, and all — was a reminder of what investment in our youth really looks like. It was also good to share the evening with friends and colleagues from across the community, including MP Heather Bodden, all of us there for the same reason: to cheer these children on.
To the founders, teachers, volunteers, and parents who have given ten years to this work — thank you. This is the kind of programme that builds not just musicians, but citizens.

Strong communities look out for one another. In Red Bay, that means showing up for our neighbours — and turning a Saturday morning into something that gives back.
Roy Tatum, MP and Team Red Bay are hosting a Community Trunk Sale on Saturday, June 20th, from 6 AM to 2 PM, at the empty lot behind 33 Marina Drive (access also via Prospect Drive). Come browse household items, clothing, books and more — great finds at great prices, all in a relaxed community atmosphere.
Every vendor’s registration fee goes to support the Red Bay Food Pantry, and food pantry donations are welcome on the day. It's a simple idea: a good morning out that helps a neighbour put food on the table.
